ShaderGlass troubleshooting: black screen, lag, and capture
Resolve common ShaderGlass overlay and capture problems on Windows.
Black screen or no picture
Update your graphics driver, confirm DirectX 11 support and test a normal desktop window. If a game uses exclusive fullscreen, try borderless instead.
High GPU use or lag
Try a simpler shader and reduce output resolution or filter complexity. Some CRT presets use multiple rendering passes that cost more GPU time.
Yellow capture border
Windows may display a border around captured content. Behavior depends on operating system and capture mode; do not assume it can always be removed.
File or DLL errors
Confirm that the download is complete and extracted. Consult the application documentation for missing runtimes and avoid downloading individual DLL files from random sites.
Frequently asked questions
Why does ShaderGlass show a black window?
Common causes include unsupported capture mode, outdated drivers, or exclusive fullscreen applications.
Why does ShaderGlass lag?
Complex shader passes and high resolution can increase GPU usage; start with a simpler preset.
